RSM Erasmus Meets BP

Dr. Mike Page and Theo Backx, RSM Erasmus Executive in Residence shared views with Mike Sharrock, Managing Director of BP Netherlands, during his visit on 12 October 2004.

As part of the opening of the academic year, Mr. Sharrock had been oof several representatives of the business community invited to join top Erasmus University alumni for a 'community lunch' held on 6 September 2004 at the campus Faculty Club.

Strengthening the Relationship

After the event, Mr. Sharrock expressed interest in the University's alumni profile and a second visit was arranged. On 12 October 2004, he was accompanied by Rudi Das, Head of Learning and Development for the Benelux. They viewed presentations on RSM Erasmus given by Mike Page as well as a presentation of Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Building a Partnership

Both parties discussed the possibilities of a partnership between BP and Erasmus, a networked university offering diversity and a practical approach. Interested in further strengthening the relationship, meetings are being arranged with Jessica Rubingh, RSM Erasmus Career Management Centre Director, and Bud Bickes of the LABEUR Career Centre.

Mike Sharrock

Mr. Mike Sharrock, a British national, was appointed General Manager BP Nederland BV in June 2003. Starting his career in 1980, he gained experience in various BP departments with locations including Tunisia, China, Indonesia, Vietnam and Germany.

The early 80s placed Mr Sharrock in the Upstream division in The Netherlands. In the early 90s he spent two years in the UK Government Cabinet Office. In 2002 he was appointed to head BP's Retail Business in The Netherlands prior to taking up his current role of Managing Director of BP Netherlands. He is also part of BP's European Regional Executive team.
