Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) recently celebrated the success of its 2012 Graduates in the Erasmus Executive Programme in Strategic Management.

The Erasmus Executive Programme in Strategic Management is a four-month open programme designed to equip high-level working professionals with the necessary insight and expertise to be at the forefront of what has been named as a strategic revolution in management. The four-month course is undertaken alongside professionals’ day jobs and gives them concepts, tools and contacts with leading academics that can be directly applied in their work.

During an official graduation ceremony, 16 graduates were presented with their degrees/diplomas that marked the successful completion of their Strategic Decision Plan (SDP) and studies. Academic Director Dr Hans Bruining, Associate Professor of Strategic Management at RSM said: “We believe strongly at RSM that the practice and the science of business administration can provide complimentary insights for understanding reality.”

Dr Browning remarked on the perseverance and intensity of the participants of the course, each of whom produced an SDP based on the real life challenges faced by participants, so directly relevant to their jobs and businesses. Dr Bruining described the SDP as “the biggest jump you can make” in examining strategic issues of a company, in terms of understanding analysis, generating options and implementing solutions.

The award for the best written and defended SDP was given to KPN’s Lead Architect TV Jerry van de Leur who graduated Cum Laude. Speaking after the ceremony, Mr Van de Leur said that he signed up for the course to “get a better grip on the strategic discussions around the company and to provide a better view on strategic issues.” He therefore sought a programme with a strong theoretical background for making sound strategic decisions. He added that chose RSM for the School’s, “very good name in business management, and strategic management.” The broad overview provided by the programme, the multiple viewpoints exchanged, the in depth knowledge and presentation skills of RSM’s scholars were all highlights. He said that he enjoyed the course for the viewpoints exchanged with other professionals and the in-depth knowledge provided by RSM’s scholars.

Dr. Daniela Trambitas, Technical Key Assets Group Manager at FeyeCon BV, also graduated Cum Laude. She did so, while at the same time being part of the team developing a global platform for innovation, FeyeCon BV. On presentation of her certificate, Dr. Hans Bruining observed, “...if companies grow from the start, crises come. You have really analysed some crises in a sharp way and given FeyeCon BV solutions and the way to work things out".

Applications are now open for the next Executive Education in Strategic Management course, which begins on 4 October. A brochure is available to download from the course website.
