Henk de Vries to become Chair of International Cooperation for Education about Standardisation (ICES)

Henk de Vries, Associate Professor of Standardisation at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM), has been appointed Chair of the International Cooperation for Education about Standardisation, ICES.

The growing importance of standardisation is reflected in an increasing interest in education about this topic, at all levels of education, both formal and post-formal, and both from a technical and from a business point of view. The latter is Henk de Vries’ focus. Henk replaces Prof. Song, of Jiliang University in Hangzhou, China. Next to De Vries’ chairmanship, ICES’ recent membership meeting elected Donggeun Choi of the Korean Standards Association KSA as the new Asian board member. Erik Puskar of the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, USA, represents the Americas.

ICES is a network of individuals and organisations interested in education about standardisation. The mission of ICES is to promote education about standardisation and improve its quality and attractiveness for all stakeholders. ICES’ activities include an annual conference, subsequently in Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Henk de Vries, also President of the European Academy for Standardisation (EURAS) and Special Adviser to the International Federation of Standards Users (IFAN), represents Europe. Henk (co-) authored 300 scientific and professional publications about standardisation including teaching materials and the world’s largest set of papers and reports about standardisation education. In 2009, the International Organization for Standardization ISO recognised the standardisation education activities at RSM with the ISO Award for Higher Education in Standardization.
