Students now have the opportunity to assess their competencies to advance their careers after graduating from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM). After completing a professional test, their personality and behavioural characteristics will be analysed and measured to match up with fitting career opportunities.

RSM’s Career Services will use SHL’s Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ test). In a self-service online environment, candidates can be invited to complete their personality questionnaire.

RSM’s partnership with SHL was finalised last month. SHL, operating in 57 countries with more than 30 years of experience, provides objective assessment, training and consultancy services. It supports organisations across all sectors to select, recruit, promote and develop talented people at all levels.

Frieda Franke, Career Services Manager at RSM, says the new partnership comes at a good time, shortly after a survey was conducted amongst students about RSM’s Career Services. The results indicated that students would like to take a competency test while searching for career paths.

Results of the OPQ test provide detailed information about the students’ personality characteristics, underpinning performance on key job competencies critical to graduates, managers and experienced staff. A personal report, based on the Universal Competency Framework Development Action Planner, offers the candidate a “workbook”, based on their competencies, pointing out their strong competencies and areas for development.

SHL conducts more than 25 million assessments per year worldwide. The organisation believes that the behaviour of individuals and teams in the workplace have a huge impact on the success of an organisation.

“We’ll be using the test in the new batch of CEMS students that start in September. It’s even incorporated in one of their courses.” said Franke. “Moreover during the new academic year any RSM student (BSc, MSc or MBA) will be able to benefit from the test opportunities after paying a small sum.”

The OPQ test, which is available in 28 languages, is supported by more than 50 norm groups to allow specific level, industry and role comparisons to be made. Worldwide, it’s one of the most widely used and respected measures of workplace behavioural style. The OPQ test is a popular choice amongst graduate recruitment and senior management development programs because of its depth of insight and range of business-relevant reports.
