Business professionals from a diverse range of industries and cultures kicked off their Global Executive OneMBA programme at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) with intense introduction days on campus on 16 – 18 September 2015.

OneMBA participant Mohammad Ali Khawaja from Pakistan said the introduction days were “hectic” but resulted in good insights about personal leadership. “I expect the OneMBA to be a learning experience where I can understand global market dynamics, learn from peers and faculty, and build leadership potential in the global arena,” said the information management business partner for global HR at AkzoNobel. “I also want to go beyond the business world and make friends across the world and understand other cultures and norms,” he said.

International business experience

The 29 new students reflect the global and experienced nature of the Global Executive OneMBA programme. RSM’s OneMBA Class of 2017 represents 10 nationalities; participants are from Belgium, Croatia, Italy, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Singapore, Spain, the UK, and the USA. Their average age is 41, and the 29 participants have an average of 15.5 years’ work experience. Eight participants live outside of the Netherlands. Participants in the OneMBA Class of 2017 work in various industries as entrepreneurs, or as business professionals for medium-sized companies and multinationals.

Broad knowledge and perspectives

Jalal Fitoury, a OneMBA Class of 2017 participant from the Netherlands aims to broaden his knowledge of business administration, understand views from different perspectives and create friendships with fellow peers during his MBA journey. “My first impression is excellent,” said Fitoury, who is a project manager at construction company Scheldebouw, adding that he’s impressed with the knowledge and atmosphere that RSM facilitates. “I enjoy being surrounded by peers from different backgrounds, and to share our knowledge from different perspectives.”

The new OneMBA cohort started its MBA adventure immediately. They joined peers from OneMBA partner universities, all four of them top business schools in Brazil, China, Mexico and the USA for their first global residency in Washington DC, where they explored global perspectives and the USA business environment.
