The jury of the award praised Feike Sijbesma for advancing the belief that companies have the responsibility to play a greater role in returning benefit to society. DSM provided assistance to the ASVO school in Amsterdam with the installation of solar panels on the roof of the school. It was at the ASVO school that Sijbesma was handed the Duurzaam Lintje award by two children on Tuesday 6 September 2016.
Solar energy in schools
The project is a joint initiative of Urgenda and Sungevity with support from Sijbesma and DSM. The project goal by 2020 is to provide at least half of the 7,000 primary and secondary schools in the Netherlands with solar energy via roof panels. The installation of solar panels on the ASVO school’s roof marks the beginning of the schooldakrevolutie (school roof revolution) in the Netherlands.
RSM Dean Steef van de Velde congratulates Feike Sijbesma for modelling sustainable business leadership in driving the Sustainable Development Goals addressing responsible consumption, efficient energy sourcing and advancing partnerships for community benefit. “We are committed to using business as an instrument of positive change in the world,” he says. “We applaud Feike for doing exactly that. We are proud of our alumnus.”
Sustainability
The Duurzaam Lintje award, created in 2008, recognises people who have made a special contribution in the field of sustainability in the Netherlands. In 2010, Sijbesma also received the prestigious Humanitarian of the Year Award from the United Nations Association of New York.
Feike Sijbesma graduated from his RSM business administration programme in 1987.
