Gennip, Karien van

From 2003-2007 she served as Minister for Foreign Trade and State Secretary of Economic Affairs in the Dutch cabinet. As a Minister, she build on her extensive business experience to innovate policies for industry, SMEs, start ups, consumer policy and regional policy at home, while building international relations and focusing on international trade negotiations abroad. 

In 2008, she was elected a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Karien started her career as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company in 1994, working in Amsterdam and San Francisco and joined the Financial Markets Authority in 2002. 

She graduated from Delft University of Technology in Applied Physics (1993) and holds an MBA from INSEAD, France (1995). 

Karien is the chairperson of the supervisory board of SOS Childrens Villages The Netherlands and she serves on the supervisory boards of Cordaid, Deltares, Premsela, Stichting Ondersteuning van De Nederlandse Bachvereniging and on several other advisory boards.

 She is also a Worldconnector and chairman of the jury of the Dutch Design Awards 2009. She is married with 3 daughters.
