Lodewijk Hijmans van den Bergh is Executive VP and Chief Corporate Governance Counsel of the multinational corporation Royal Ahold, based in Amsterdam. He joined Royal Ahold on 1 December 2009 when he assumed his responsibilities as an acting member of the Corporate Executive Board and as Chief Corporate Governance Counsel. Ahold’s shareholders subsequently appointed him a member of the Corporate Executive Board effective 13 April 2010.

After taking his law degree at Utrecht University, Lodewijk joined the Amsterdam-based law firm De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek in 1988. He was promoted to partner in 1994 and remained at De Brauw until his move to Ahold in 2009.

In his positions external to Ahold, Lodewijk serves as deputy chairman of the Board of the Royal  Concertgebouw Orchestra and as member of the Supervisory Boards of HAL Holding N.V. and Air Traffic Control the Netherlands. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of Champs on Stage, an organisation designed to prevent vmbo students from dropping out of their studies by engaging them in productive and career-building internships.

Lodewijk is married and the father of three daughters.
