Martijn van der Mandele is a senior partner at Parma Group NL. His professional experience marks him as an almost prototypical ‘change agent’, with cross-functional experience in strategy, research and development, technology management and organisational re-structuring across sectors, including IT, banking, consumer electronics, and chemicals.

In addition to his work as an executive fellow at Erasmus University Rotterdam, Martin is also a lecturer for RSM’s Executive Education department. He is a member of the Strategic Management Society, chairman of CentERdata Research at Tilburg University, and board member and instructor at YES!Delft, the entrepreneurship centre at Delft University of Technology, TNO and City of Delft.

He launched his career as an ICT analyst for ABN AMRO bank in 1971, and then took a position as merger and acquisitions analyst for the International Paper Company in New York City from 1974 until 1978. As a principal at Booz & Company from 1978 to 1983, Martijn worked in the consultancy’s office in New York City, Paris, Hamburg and Amsterdam. He was chairman and managing director of the European Management Board of management consultancy company Arthur D. Little from 1984 to 2001. Subsequently, Martijn was responsible for the successful turnaround of RAND Europe during his period as vice-president of RAND Corporation US and president of RAND Europe from 2002 to 2006.

In addition to articles on strategic planning and research and development management in publications such as Financieel Dagblad, Martin published the acclaimed book Changing the Leopard’s Spots, Renewal of the Professional Firm in 2009.

Martijn completed a Master of Law at the University of Leiden in 1972, an MBA Finance and Accounting at the University of Chicago in 1975, and a PhD in Management at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University in 2004.

He is married, has three grown sons, and enjoys sailing, classical music and jazz.
