René Hooft Graafland is CFO and member of the Executive Board at Heineken. He has also been the chairman of the Advisory Board of the Royal Theatre Carré since 2008 and a member of the Supervisory Board of Wolters Kluwer since 2012.

René has enjoyed a long, varied and international career at Heineken, one of the Netherlands’ most iconic brands. Starting at the company as a management trainee in 1981, René became brand manager for Heineken’s soft drink division, Vrumona, in 1983. From 1985 until 1987 he continued as an area export manager for Central and West Africa. The experience with the African market prompted his move to Kinshasa, the capital of Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he worked as financial director for Heineken’s operations from 1988 until 1990. René returned to the Netherlands in 1991 as marketing director for Heineken Nederland, and then resumed his international career in 1993, when he moved to Indonesia to become the president director of Multi Bintang, one of Heineken’s regional joint ventures.

In 1997, René returned to the Netherlands again, taking on the position of director corporate marketing for Heineken. In 2001, he became director of the Heineken Export Group, and in 2002 he was made a member of the Executive Board. In 2005 he became CFO of Heineken in addition to his position on the Executive Board.

René studied Business Administration at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam, from which he graduated in 1979, and completed the post-graduate study Chartered Accountant.

He is married and has three children.
