Ruth Cairnie is a non-executive director at Rolls-Royce Holdings plc, Associated British Foods plc and Keller Group plc.
Ruth left Royal Dutch Shell in April 2014 after a 37-year career spanning research, oil markets analysis, various B2B businesses, strategy, supply chain, and mergers and acquisitions. From April 2011 until April 2014 she was Executive Vice President for Strategy and Planning, responsible for the development of global Group strategy covering all Shell businesses. From 2005-2010, she was responsible for Shell’s global Commercial Fuels business, involving sales of fuel to business customers in over 60 countries, representing a third of Shell’s global marketing sales volumes.
Ruth served on the boards of Shell Pakistan Ltd and joint venture companies in Germany and Thailand, and on the supervisory boards of Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH and Shell Direct Germany GmbH. While mainly based in the UK, she has also lived in Stockholm, Hamburg, Singapore and the Hague.
Ruth graduated from the University of Bristol with a BSc Joint Honours in Mathematics & Physics and then did research into Cosmology and Black Holes at University of Cambridge, taking a Masters in Advanced Studies. She took the Corporate Finance programme at London Business School in 2003. She is married, has four children, and her hobbies include opera, skiing and keeping fit.
