Explore the role of executive pay in corporate governance

This one-day workshop provides in-depth insights into the topic of executive compensation, addressing past, current and (possible) future trends from both academic and practical perspectives. The programme is offered jointly by the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) and experts from Mercer, the world’s largest a human-resource and related financial-services consulting firm, headquartered in New York City.

The first part of the workshop will discuss the most important take away’s from academic research on executive compensation in order to establish where we are now. As questions of executive compensation are indissolubly tied up with questions of corporate governance, we will look at executive compensation within a broader set of corporate governance questions, and then give a concise but comprehensive overview of the currently available knowledge on executive compensation.

The second part of the workshop will be highly practical and focus on future directions, including discussion of best practices, the role of remuneration committees, and expected trends in pay levels, the pay mix, as well as policy reforms and possible future best practices.

This workshop will allow you to:
  • Gain in-depth understandings of corporate governance: what is it, what are some of the main issues and why do we need it?
  • Develop an understanding of latest knowledge on executive compensation
  • Develop an understanding of the importance of the pay mix and the roles and responsibilities of the remuneration committee
  • Develop an understanding of the best practices and latest policy reforms with respect to executive compensation.
