Niek Hoogervorst works as a PhD student for the Erasmus Centre of Behavioral Ethics in the department of Business and Society Management. His research project focuses on the antecedents of the ethical or unethical behavior of leaders. Focusing on leader motives (power and affiliation), follower characteristics as well as situational variables he tries to find the answers to questions such as:
- When are leaders willing to sacrifice their own interest for the interest of their group?
- Is a leader’s behavior affected by his or her need to be liked and accepted by their followers?
- Do leaders take into account the needs of followers when deciding whether to enact fair or unfair procedures?
- When do leaders punish unethical follower behavior and when do they tolerate this?
