The department of decision and information sciences of the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University is with its research active in one of the key economic area’s of The Netherlands. Trade and transport for a country which is both in air and sea transport the gateway to Europe offers challenging research problems.

On one hand decision sciences like operations research and management science centre around the field of logistics, where terms like e-procurement and online planning play an important role. Innovative solutions for controlling logistic processes with advanced planning systems, auctioning of transport or production capacity and global supply chains in and around the Port of Rotterdam and Schiphol airport are subjects which are studied.

On the other hand the developments in the field of information and communication technology which in itself leads to interesting new fields of research can be applied in this innovative application area. Classical subjects like information management and planning have to be defined in a dynamic setting. Subjects like smart business networks, in all its broadness, leads to fields of study like e-trust, e-auctioning, e-security and so on.

The possibilities of technical infrastructures for collaborative work support for international business processes have to be developed and used in education and research.

Being leading in the above mentioned fields is our mission!

The participation and the role we play in national and international research networks shows that this mission can be fulfilled. So if you want to study and do research with companies that are leading in the field and with researchers who are dedicated to develop new theoretical concepts and create innovative solutions for a dynamic application area.
