Theme 5: Smart business networks

The Smart Business Networks research programme aims to understand how business can apply advanced communications networks for organising business in a “smart”way. As networking capabilities increase dramatically, organisations become multi-linked nodes in complicated network structures. This research programme tries to unravel the impact of network structures, network positions, and the linkages of nodes on organisational and network performance. Organisations are not just seen as individual actors in a sequential supply chain - but as dynamic nodes in a loosely structured network in which they are linked according to the customer’s specific delivery requirements.Within the programme there are several research projects such as the role of trust in business networks and information systems, virtual teams and their effectiveness in global cooperation, knowledge sharing and its role in the emergence of knowledge networks (in communities of practice dealing with agro logistics, agriculture, and sustainable mobility), electronic auction markets, the role of privacy and identity.
