Especially in the last decades, enterprises had to be seriously concerned with technology and innovation in order to be successful. The most successful enterprises are those that do not only react most adequately to changes in their environment caused by technological change, but that are also able to initiate such changes to create competitive advantages. Therefore, dealing with technology and innovation is an essential skill for a manager.
The department carries out both basic and applied research. The results of the research activities are published as books and articles in national and international journals. Conferences and seminars are organized frequently. The department MTI also frequently conducts research studies on behalf of third parties, among which are many Dutch and foreign companies as well as public authorities such as the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and the European Commission.
