The Erasmus Strategic Renewal Centre (ESCR) of the Rotterdam School of Management, Ersamus University develops and shares new insights on how to manage and control strategic renewal processes in large corporations.
The ESRC aims to remain at the top of European centres for scientific research into strategic management. Research projects focus on a number of interrelated topics and sectors which were confronted with a series of environmental shocks, such as the financial services sector and the energy sector.
History
In 1994, researchers from the RSM Erasmus University started to study the flexibility and renewal characteristics of Dutch corporations. Between 1994 and 1997, four Dutch corporations (PTT Post, Van Ommeren Tank Storage, KLM Cargo and GWK) and the Dutch subsidiary of Ericsson were investigated.
Based upon the preliminary findings, the team applied for a funding to extend the research on a broader and more international scale. With an IMPULS-grant of 70.000 Euro from the board of the Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Erasmus Strategic Renewal Centre was founded in 1997 and it's first major project, a study into the European Financial Services Sector, took off.
Embedded into ERIM research programme
The central topic "Strategic Renewal" is nowadays embedded in the research programmes of ERIM, Erasmus Research Institute of Management, in which the Rotterdam School of Management and the Rotterdam School of Economics have brought together their best research within the domain of management.
This secures sustained support for scientific research into Strategic Renewal of Firms and numerous research assistents and PhD students were appointed since the definition of the research programme on strategy and entrepreneurship.
