To ensure that what you learn is relevant, and that you'll know how to apply the knowledge and skills acquired at RSM, we've integrated the real world at every stage of the GM programme: 'learning by doing'.
A number of times each year guest lecturers are invited to come and speak to the GM students. Last year we were able to welcome (a.o.) Ad Scheepbouwer (former CEO of Dutch Telecommunications Company KPN) and Roel Welsing (Head of Marketing & Sales at Triodos Bank). Click here for examples of different guest lectures.
You'll be asked to solve a specific problem as described in an ready made case study. Your team mates and you will design solutions and critically reflect on your recommendations under the guidance of a professor. For instance the courses Operations and Supply Chain and Information Management and Social Media will ask you to do such an assignment.
This type of assignment will require you to search for and evaluate information on a specific topic about an existing company. Often you'll be given first hand information by guest speakers from that company. Subsequently, you'll be asked to develop feasible and creative recommendations for a problem. You will receive feedback from the company’s employees and/or your professors. For instance, the courses Business and Society and International Business Strategy use this method. Click here for examples of earlier research.
Each year a number of companies work together with the GM programme in the so-called 'Consultancy Project', the culmination of your practical work. Over the course of three months, you and your team mates will choose one of the participating companies and analyze their problem. You will meet with the company on several occasions at various stages. At the end of the project you will present your findings to the organisation and will receive direct feedback. Click here for examples of earlier consultancy projects.
We are aware that many skills are needed in order to be effective in a future career. During the course of the programme we offer 2-3 skills seminars on varying topics to help you acquire specific skills that will be indispensible for your future jobs. Last year we offered skill workshops on Leadership Development, Project Management (offered by Shell) and Consultancy Skills.
