Scholarships

Higher education in the Netherlands is subsidised, resulting in relatively low tuition fees for EEA nationals. The need for academic scholarships and financial aid has therefore not been a necessity for most students in the past. Increasing numbers of students coming to the Netherlands from outside the EEA in recent years has resulted in a growing need for more academic scholarships, however the number of grants awarded is unfortunately still limited.

Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University does not currently grant scholarships of its own, but does participate in several programmes:

Ahold Scholarship Programme

Ahold is an international food retailing group based in the Netherlands. The company operates leading supermarket companies in Europe and the United States. At the end of 2009, it had 2,909 stores, 206,000 employees and total sales of € 28 billion.

The Ahold Scholarship Programme was launched in 2010 and aims to support talented non-EEA students from low-wage countries and the USA applying for RSM's Finance & Investments (MScFI) and Accounting & Control (MScBA) programmes. Applying students must have an outstanding academic record, a special interest in retail and preferably intend to live and work in the USA or Europe once they graduate from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM).

For the academic year 2011-2012, the Ahold Scholarship Programme will offer three scholarships of € 5,000 each. Students who receive a Ahold Scholarship will be invited for a special Ahold Introduction Day and will be able to consult a Ahold executive e.g. for a summer internship or projects.

To apply for one of the Ahold Scholarships, non-EEA students must:

Apply for RSM’s Finance & Investments (MScFI) or Accounting & Control (MScBA) programme. For more information, please check our Admission & Application pages.
Have excellent average academic, GMAT and language test results.
Submit a digital version of a motivation letter and curriculum vitae (specifically written/designed in relation to the Ahold Scholarship) along with the application form (see Step 5).
Be familiarised with the Ahold competency sets.
The application deadline is 15 May 2011. Potential Ahold Scholarship students will be selected and shortlisted by the RSM MSc Admissions Office and presented to Ahold. Ahold will ultimately decide which students receive the scholarship. A selection interview (online), with HR and a member of senior management, could be part of the selection process.

The selection process for the Ahold Sholarship Programme is expected to be completed by the en of June.

Orange Tulip Scholarship programme (OTS) - funding for Korean students

For the academic year 2011-2012, Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) will grant one full scholarship (tuition waiver of € 14,950) or two partial scholarships (tuition waiver of €7,475), depending on the quality of the applicants, through the Orange Tulip Scholarship Programme (OTS) of Neso- Korea, for the MSc programmes excluding MScIM/CEMS.

To apply for the Orange Tulip Scholarship, Korean students must:

Have an outstanding academic record.
Submit their application for the OTS to NESO-Korea. The procedure for this can be found through the NESO-Korea web site (click on OTS) and
Submit their application for one of the RSM Master programmes (excluding MScIM/CEMS) before 15 May. In order to be considered for an OTS scholarship, applicants need to meet all MSc. admission requirements and be in the possession of an unconditional offer letter. Orange Tulip Scolarship programme (OTS) - funding for Mexican students

For the academic year 2011-2012, Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) will grant one full scholarship (tuition waiver of € 14,950) or two partial scholarships (tuition waiver of €7,475), depending on the quality of the applicants, through the Orange Tulip Scholarship Programme (OTS) of Neso-Mexico, for the MSc programmes excluding MScIM/CEMS.

To apply for the Orange Tulip Scholarship, Mexican students must:

Have an outstanding academic record
Submit their application for the OTS to NESO-Mexico. The procedure for this can be found through the NESO-Mexico web site and by checking the OTS- RSM specific page and
Submit their application for one of the RSM Master programmes (excluding MScIM/CEMS) before 15 May. In order to be considered for an OTS scholarship, applicants need to meet all MSc admission requirements and be in the possession of an unconditional offer letter. COLFUTURO joint loan-scholarship programme – funding for Colombian students

The Fundación para el Futuro de Colombia (COLFUTURO) and Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) share an interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of business education between Colombia and the Netherlands and promoting stronger ties between the two institutions by increasing the financial support available for the graduate studies of Colombian students.

To apply for the joint graduate loan-scholarship programme, students need to:

Seek admission to a graduate degree programme at RSM.
Students admitted to RSM graduate degree programmes need to submit a loan-scholarship application to Colfuturo, following the normal application procedure and meeting all the standard requirements established by Colfuturo.

Government Grants

Dutch students are eligible for a basic government grant, which includes:

A monthly allowance. As of 2001 the monthly allowance was €65 for students living with their parents, and €200 for students living on their own;
A student travel card;
An interest-bearing loan
A supplementary grant (your eligibility to receive this supplement depends on the income of your parents/guardian).
