Your master thesis is your chance to investigate a topic of your choice in more detail and it can be an invaluable learning experience. It provides an opportunity to show your potential as one of the next generation of managers. During its preparation you will have the chance to interact with internationally-recognised companies and well-known researchers in the financial industry.
Writing your master thesis is an important part of the programme. It requires the application of theory to practice, or the testing of a specific theory.
- You tackle a real managerial problem in a company by using the theories you have learned in the core courses and master electives. This generally results in recommendations to the management of the company where the study is executed.
OR
- You investigate a theoretical problem recognised in academic literature. Using data from available databases, you use statistical techniques to formulate theoretical recommendations.
One of our principles is that each student should be able to graduate within a reasonable timeframe. We therefore impose a tight schedule during the academic year:
- In January we offer you workshops entitled "Finance & Investment Skills", in which we train your skills, including the use of spreadsheet and statistics/econometrics software as well as writing and presentation skills.
- In April and May you will work on your master thesis proposal; you will be assigned a coach from our department.
- From May until July you will work on your actual master thesis, with several feedback sessions in between with your coach.
- At the end of August you will defend your master thesis and graduate with your MSc.
