The programme kicks off with four core courses, the goal of which is teach you the theories and associated frameworks, concepts, tools, techniques, and methods that are essential for the strategic analysis and management of organisations.
This course takes you through the evolution of strategy perspectives with the purpose of revealing how a firm can gain a sustainable competitive advantage. Participants take home vital new knowledge and insights, and sharpen their skills in terms of analysing complex problems quickly, developing and articulating team-based solutions, and defending their stance to sceptical peers bent on alternative solutions.
As companies internationalise and compete with global firms, they face a new set of dynamics and challenges. This course equips students with the newest scientific understanding and practical wisdom essential for deftly managing multinational corporations. The topical managerial issues addressed in this course include the determination of effective global organisation structures, management of international value-chain relationships, and international business strategy.
Companies are ever more reliant on mergers, acquisitions and alliances to promote new learning, capability development, and value creation. This course develops state-of-the-art understanding of the risks and returns associated with mergers, acquisitions and alliances as well as the managerial skills and capabilities needed to manage corporate development successfully. This includes designing a corporate development strategy, making decisions to acquire or ally, using integration techniques, and coordinating a firm’s alliance and acquisition portfolio.
All MSc students are required to write a thesis that familiarises them with the method of science as a basis for examining and solving problems, and developing and applying managerially-useful knowledge.
To provide students with a solid foundation for their thesis, the Strategic Management programme has pioneered the much-acclaimed Research Clinic course. In close cooperation with a staff member, you are required to prepare a research proposal, which eventually becomes the first chapter of your thesis. Importantly, you can expect full support when preparing your research proposal as staff members are keen to help you complete your thesis on time.
