      <title>Focus on shareholder value proves to be counterproductive</title>
      <description>Rotterdam, March 2010 --- An emphasis on shareholder value is adversely affecting the financial performance of the Dutch top-100 listed companies, according to doctoral research carried out by Pieter-Jan Bezemer at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. Bezemer’s thesis, entitled Diffusion of Corporate Governance Beliefs, provides support for widespread criticism of the Anglo-Saxon economic model, which is more driven by market forces.       <description>Rotterdam, March 2010 --- Frederik-Paul Schlingemann (1967, Breda) has joined Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) as a Full Professor in Corporate Finance, specialising in Mergers and Acquisitions (M&amp;A). Schlingemann's research interests involve the question of optimal financing and investment decisions in corporations, particularly decisions relating to mergers and acquisitions. His current projects include private equity acquisitions and managerial retention, cross-border acquisitions, and the effect acquisitions have on risk and uncertainty. </description>
