The 2012 case writing competition season has begun. International competition organizers such as ecch and efmd are calling for cases. If you wish to enter your cases, please get in touch with us. We are happy to provide whatever help you need.
In the past three years, cases developed by RSM faculty members were entered in various international competitions. “A Grand Entrance? Li Ning’s Emergence as a Global, Chinese Brand” won best strategy case in the 2011 ecch and first prize in the 2010 AESE case writing competitions. “Dow’s Acquisition Program”, “Dwarf Buys Giant: Spyker’s Acquisition of SAAB”, and “RedPack Beach Lockers to Unlock Potentials” were selected as finalists for the 2010 and 2011 Decision Science Institute’s Best Teaching Case Competition. ecch case writing competition 2012
Submission deadline: 12 October 2012
The case writing competition is part of the ecch Case Awards which are presented annually to recognise worldwide excellence in case writing and to raise the profile of the case method of learning. In 2011 the competition attracted 91 entries from 75 places of learning in 34 countries.
Categories for the 2012 competition
Hot topic: The Business of Sport. The hot topic identified by the ecch Executive Committee for the 2012 case writing competition is The Business of Sport. In this Olympic year cases are invited that feature a business situation set within the sporting industry. Relevance to the topic will form part of the judging criteria.
New case writer. This category is designed to recognise new case authors. Submissions must be the first teaching case prepared by the author(s) in a format that can be used by other case teachers. The case may focus on any business subject area.

efmd excellence in Practice case competition
Deadline for submission of full papers: 1 May 2012
The EFMD Excellence in Practice Award attracts case studies describing an effective and impactful Learning and Development intervention. These programmes can be deployed by an organisation (company, public sector, charity etc.) either together with their inhouse L&D organisation or with an external L&D provider. The specific Learning and Development domain in which the intervention is situated can be:
• Leadership Development
• Professional Development
• Talent Development
• Organisation Development
All partners must act as a team and contribute to the case study to ensure a balanced view.
Submission is free if at least one of the applicants is an EFMD member organisation. A small administration fee of 300 Euro will be charged for non-members applicants. Winning cases will be featured extensively across the EFMD network and published in the Emerald Group Publishing "Strategic Direction" journal.

CEEMAN Case Writing Competition - in partnership with Emerald
18th competition launched - submission deadline 1 June 2012
The aim of the competition is to encourage and promote the development of high-quality case material relevant for the realities of transitional and emerging economies and at the same time promote the development of case-writing capabilities in those countries. In the spirit of a fully inclusive competition, global submissions are encouraged.
