The Imagination, Media and Reputation conference adopts a multidisciplinary approach to explore the interactions between tourism, hospitality and media practices within contemporary society in which image has become the object of consumption. Emerging new media models and information ecologies beg the word media to be redefined and compel us, amongst others, to debate what the rise of an emerging visual and visceral culture means for the media, tourism and hospitality practices? Particularly, what is the role of text in communicating? How can we explain the phenomenal success of visually based media and how might tourism destinations and hospitality enterprises exploit same? How will different approaches to “experiential design”, publicity and promotion impact on tourism and hospitality processes through which brand identity is constructed? What impact will the aforementioned forces have on the reputation building and performance of countries, corporations, public organizations, communities, cities, and celebrities?
