Issues Management & Crisis Communication

Crises and issues can pose major threats to the reputations of organizations. A crisis is a sudden, major “shock” such as a serious product defect, an oil spill, or an accounting scandal. An issue is a more long-term “difference of opinion” between a company and one or several of its stakeholder groups, like the desirability of genetic modification or the desirability of tobacco advertising.

Our research focuses on which communication strategies are most effective during crises, or when managing issues. Research by CCC members regarding issues management and crisis communication has recently appeared in the Journal of Management Studies.
