In a recently published report of the University of Leiden the quality of scientific management research in The Netherlands, Europe, and worldwide has been investigated.

Strategy research at the Erasmus university: three times number one
The strategy researchers of the Erasmus University Rotterdam performed very well. Based on the research methodology applied in this study, strategy research ranks number one in The Netherlands, Europe and worldwide. The report notices: "Erasmus University Rotterdam did very well in the output ranking of the Strategy sub field, taking the top position world-wide" (p.17).
The Erasmus Strategic Renewal enter, chaired by the professors Volberda and Van den Bosch, has contributed significantly to this number one position.
The strategy research of the Erasmus University is focused on the factors that determine strategic renewal of organisations, and the role of coevolution in the renewal process. From a coevolutionary perspective it is the task of management to continuously anticipate on external developments and intentionally reshape the external developments.
An important finding of the Erasmus strategy research is that the capacity to develop strategic flexibility and absorb new knowledge is very important for a firm. Furthermore, the research has shown that innovation takes place not only through more capital, but in particular through new management and organisation processes.
