The Erasmus Strategic Renewal Center of the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) develops and shares new insights on how to manage and control strategic renewal processes in large corporations.
The ESRC aims to remain to belong to the top of European centers for scientific research into strategic management.
Research projects focus on a number of interrelated topics and sectors that have been confronted with a series of environmental shocks, such as the financial services sector and the energy sector.
History
In 1994, researchers from the Rotterdam School of Management started studying the flexibility and renewal characteristics of Dutch corporations. Between 1994 and 1997, four Dutch corporations (PTT Post, Van Ommeren Tank Storage, KLM Cargo and GWK) and the Dutch subsidiary of Ericsson were investigated.
Building upon the preliminary findings, the team applied for a funding to extend the research on a broader and more international scale. With an IMPULS-grant of 70.000 Euro from the board of the Erasmus University Rotterdam, in 1997 the Erasmus Strategic Renewal Center was founded and it's first major project, a study into the European Financial Services Sector took off.
Embedded into ERIM research programme
The central topic "Strategic Renewal" is nowadays embedded in the research programming of ERIM, Erasmus Research Institute of Management in which the Rotterdam School of Management and the Rotterdam School of Economics have brought together their best research within the domain of management.
Hereby, sustained support for scientific research into Strategic Renewal of Firms is secured and numerous research fellows and PhD students were appointed since the definition of the research programme on strategy and entrepreneurship.
