Language levels at time of selection / exchange

Your language skills are very important for all international study abroad programmes. You will attend business and management courses from the regular programme of the host university; this usually means they will be in the language of the host country. RSM uses the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to evaluate your language skills.

Levels of the Common European Framework (CEFR):
A1 – Beginners level
A2 – Pre-intermediate level
B1 – Intermediate level
B2 – High intermediate level
C1 – Advanced level

English
At most partner schools the following language scores are needed to be admitted to their exchange programme:

Language Test Score
CEFR B2.2
TOEFL Internet based: 100
Computer based: 250
Paper based: 600
IELTS 6.5 - 7.0

Scores of TOEFL and/or IELTS should be valid and therefore not older than 1,5 year at time of selection and 2 years at time of exchange.

No English proof is needed for the online application RSM*, if:
- English is your mother tongue;
- You have proof that you have completed your pre-master or (non)-RSM bachelor studies in English (at least three years);
- You have proof that you have completed your entire secondary education in English;

*Note: Please be aware that the above mentioned language exemptions are ONLY applicable for our internal selection. After selection and being nominated, the partner schools, in most cases, require additional proof of language skills, such as official TOEFL or IELTS scores.
