Hosted by Europe Engage

An intensive two-day seminar for teaching staff in higher education and others interested in service learning (e.g., community members, authorities) to promote a combination of learning objectives and community service is planned for 23 and 24 February at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM). This educational approach, called ‘service learning’, provides a pragmatic and progressive learning experience at the same time as meeting societal needs. The event is hosted by Europe Engage.

Participants will learn from world-class presenters and facilitators including RSM’s Lucas Meijs, professor of strategic philanthropy, volunteering, civil society and business; and from Wolfgang Stark, professor for Organizational and Community Psychology at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

The intensive programme for the two-day event includes sessions on engagement across Europe, and developing a culture of civic engagement through service learning in higher education. It will also focus on networking in service learning.

Other presenters include Karsten Altenschmidt, service learning co-ordinator for Uniaktiv at the University of Duisburg-Essen; Jörg Miller, project manager for Uniaktiv; and Stephanie Maas, junior researcher and PhD student at RSM.
