Another “Spirit Award” for RSM MBA students at Paris tournament

Full-time MBA students from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) flocked to Paris for the MBA Tournament from 4 to 6 May 2017. In addition to medals in cricket and women’s swimming, the RSM MBA team won the Spirit Award – and this wasn’t the first time the Class of 2018 won an award of its kind.

The annual MBA Tournament (MBAT) is the biggest gathering of MBA students in Europe. More than 1,800 students from top business schools across Europe travelled to the campus of HEC Paris for three days of sports, events, networking opportunities and celebrations in early May. The 80 RSM MBA students joined in various sporting activities, including football, cross country running, chess and petanque.

RSM MBA student Diana Serrano won a silver medal in women’s swimming, and Ario Seto Budiman won bronze in chess. The RSM team also won silver in cricket. And RSM’s Abhishek Krishnan made the final table of the poker tournament, out of more than 100 participants in this activity.

Building leadership skills and friendships

“The MBAT is not just a sporting event to represent your school,” says Aabhas Mago, an RSM MBA student from India. “It’s also an unmatched opportunity to network with future business leaders from all over the globe.” Mago said preparing for MBAT gave him the opportunity to build leadership skills, get to know his classmates outside of the classroom, and build long-term friendships. “This event will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the greatest highlights of our year,” he said.

The RSM team won the MBAT’s Spirit Award, just like the MBA Class of 2017 did in Paris last year, showing how close-knit and high-spirited each batch of RSM MBA students is. It is the second time in a month that this MBA Class of 2018 won this kind of award; this year’s RSM MBA participants also won the ‘School Spirit Award at the IESE Spring Games in Barcelona’ in April 2017.

Canadian/Pakistani MBA participant Osama Javed said: “The HEC MBA Tournament was four days of intense athletics, networking, award winning, celebrating and excitement. All in all: an unforgettable experience.”
