Graduation proceeds help materialize ‘care bus’ for children’s hospital
Proceeds from the receptions at the graduation ceremonies of the two bachelor programmes at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) went to the Stichting Vrienden van het Sophia (Friends of Sophia Foundation). The more than 800 graduates and their families celebrated the completion of the three-year programmes at the New Luxor Theatre in Rotterdam in November. The funds will be used towards a mobile research laboratory.
In total, € 9,295 was handed over to Vrienden van het Sophia, a foundation raising funds for Erasmus MC - Sophia Children's Hospital in Rotterdam. The amount raised from selling drink tokens during the BSc Bedrijfskunde (Business Administration) graduation ceremony on 16 November added up to € 3,855. And the BSc International Business Administration graduation ceremony on 17 November raised funds amounting to € 5,440.
Health care for children
With this, RSM contributed to Vrienden van het Sophia’s ambition to realise the Sophia Zorgbus (Sophia care bus). This mobile research laboratory can be used to examine and research children, and provide them with health care at their home as some have difficulties to travel to the Erasmus MC - Sophia Children's Hospital in Rotterdam. In first instance, the bus will be utilised for mentally challenged autistic children.
“It’s heart-warming that RSM students and their families contributed so much to the children’s hospital again this year,” says Chrisje Seijkens, communication and fundraising manager at Stichting Vrienden van het Sophia. “Without such support, we would not be able to realise such important projects. We are really grateful!”
The future generation
RSM has been donating funds to Vrienden van het Sophia after the bachelor graduations for several years. “There’s a nice link between our graduates, education and the future generation – young children in particular,” says Stella Li, programme manager for RSM’s BSc International Business Administration. “Erasmus MC is part of our university, and children are the future. We hope medical research and new opportunities to grow, learn and be healthy will lead to great achievements in the future for these children.”
