Rotterdam, 3 July 2012 -- Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) announced today a partnership with IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants), the association of accountants and financial professionals in business. Under this agreement, RSM becomes the first university school in The Netherlands to embed subject matter from IMA’s Certified Management Accountant (CMA®) programme into the university’s Masters in Accounting & Control curriculum. RSM will serve as an exclusive authorised CMA Review Course Provider for the Netherlands.

This partnership will enable RSM students undertaking a MScBA in Accounting & Control to also earn IMA’s CMA (Certified Management Accountant) credential. The CMA is the most widely recognised international qualification for management accountants and its addition to the degree programme will be an excellent boost to students’ career chances.

The agreement, formalised today at a signing ceremony, brings together RSM’s ground-breaking business research and leadership development and IMA, the leader in education, ethics, and professional excellence for management accountants.

Beginning in September 2012, RSM will start a CMA Program® track within its MScBA Master in Accounting & Control programme. The curriculum will contain at least 90 percent of the CMA’s body of knowledge.

Eric Waarts, Dean of Pre-experience programmes at RSM commented: “We are very pleased to be a CMA programme partner. This recognition by the IMA sends an unmistakable message to potential students and employers that our MScBA in Accounting & Control provides an academic education that is professionally relevant, cutting edge and internationally respected, and offers a wide array of employment possibilities to our students.”

Frank Hartmann, Chair of Department Accounting & Control said: “I am very happy with this close cooperation between IMA and my department. At RSM, we now offer students from all continents one straight avenue into a successful international career in financial management. Both for local and internal firms and organisations, the IMA label guarantees students’ skills and competences beyond traditional local programmes.”

“RSM ranks as one of Europe’s top business schools and we at IMA are thrilled to partner with such a prestigious university. Our partnership will enable management accounting students in The Netherlands to access quality exam preparation to sit for, and successfully pass, the CMA exam,” said Jeff Thomson, CMA, IMA president and CEO. “As a result, university students who aspire to worthwhile careers will be able to gain the best education in management accounting.”
