Next week Rotterdam will be the destination of more than 200 public transport experts from all over the world (28 countries, 5 continents)  when the Conference on Advanced Systems in Public Transport (CASPT2015) comes to town. This year’s event is the 13th in the series of fora for the international community of researchers and practitioners in advanced systems for public transport planning and operations. The conference is organised by Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) and the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) from 19 – 23 July in Rotterdam’s nhow hotel.

Leo Kroon, Professor of Quantitative Logistics at RSM said: “CASPT2015 has considerable societal relevance; several public transport companies from across Europe – such as NS, RET, HTM, ProRail, SNCF, DB, and DSB – send representatives; some of them also sponsor the conference. We also attract sponsorship and attendees from software companies; this event features significant contributions to the theory and application of systems and methodologies for advancing and improving public transport planning and operations.”

Experts from all over the world will discuss the recent developments in public transport that can continue to make it more attractive for passengers, and more sustainable. “The advanced systems that are discussed may be tools for supporting planning processes or real-time operations, but also modern fare-collection systems such as smart cards,” said Prof. Kroon.

Three plenary lectures will feature Maurice Unck, Director of strategy and communication for Netherlands Railways;  Martin Grötschel from the Zuse Institut and TU Berlin; and Martin Trépanier of the Polytechnique Montreal. In addition there will be more than 130 parallel presentations from contributors. These presentations cover public transport’s attractiveness for passengers, its potential for sustainability, accessibility, door-to-door connections, and other relevant aspects.

More detailed information about the event schedule can be found on the conference website www.caspt.org.
