Business professionals will be brought to the forefront of business and management knowledge during three interactive events, organised by Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM). In RSM Discovery Live: the Future of Work, they will explore how technology, digitisation and big data research affect employers and employees. RSM Discovery Live’s first edition will take place in Rotterdam on Thursday 22 September.

RSM Discovery Live is a new series of innovative learning experiences with a livestream, including audience and mobile voting polls and multi-media elements, exploring the ‘future of work’. Top researchers from RSM will provide the academic fuel for debate with evidence from research and case studies. In addition, corporate speakers will give insights into their company’s strategic responses and discuss this with RSM academics and attendees. Attendees will have ample opportunities to engage in debate and network with RSM’s academics, alumni and the business community.

Identifying trends

The first session of RSM Discovery Live will focus on corporate strategy. The event’s academic speakers will present their perspectives on how to identify trends and determine a company’s response.

  • Prof. Henk Volberda will explore the most important findings in the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs report which analyses changes in the types and numbers of jobs as a result of the disruptive technologies that are collectively known as ‘the fourth industrial revolution’.
  • Prof. Vareska van de Vrande will discuss how technology allows employees to work flexibly. She will explore how companies can stay innovative when they have a growing number of employees working offsite and flexible hours.
  • Prof. Frank Hartmann will talk about the influence of neuroscience on the changing thoughts on work, based on a case study within his research field accountancy and control about how neuroscience can play a part in who should and who should not be hired for job positions.

The academic presentations will be followed by business speakers, panel discussions, videos and audience polls.

RSM Discovery Live, which will take place in HAL4.1 in Rotterdam on Thursday 22 September from 15:00 – 18:30, will conclude with a networking reception. Tickets are available on the registration page.
