Jan-Chris has been Managing Director of the second largest independent car importer in the Netherlands since January 2017, continuing a varied global career in the automotive industry. He is personally committed to excellence in management with a focus on branding, innovation and sales. He mentors young Dutch talent in the industry globally and guest lectures yearly to masters students in marketing strategy at Erasmus University.

Jan-Chris has an education in French Literature at Tufts University in Boston, and started his career as a banker in New York and Paris. Following his passion for cars, he earned his master’s degree in international management and IT at the MIT Sloan school in 1993. After starting his automotive career at Toyota Motor Sales in California, he held positions in product planning and marketing at BMW of North America in New Jersey and BMW AG in Munich.

In 2000 Jan-Chris headed up brand communications for the re-launch of MINI. In 2003 he set up one of the world’s first marketing innovation labs and initiated the BMW ConnectedDrive – internet in the car - and CleanEnergy – hydrogen - projects. In 2006 as VP of BMW Group Global Marketing he re-positioned the brand with BMW EfficientDynamics, and initiated the BMWi brand. In 2010 Jan-Chris took on his first P&L responsibility as Managing Director of BMW Group Nederland, focusing especially on turning around service quality in the organization. This effort also lead him to founding a voluntary marketing initiative called Wereldland Nederland focusing on promoting better service. From 2014 to 2016 he was COO of BMW of North America based in New Jersey and lead the company to record sales.

Further following his passion for cars and returning to his roots in the Netherlands Jan-Chris joined the Louwman family to lead the transformation of their 93 year old business into a next generation automotive importer.
