Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) is looking for a new colleague to strengthen its department of Accounting and Control. We invite you to send in your application for the position of assistant professor in all areas of accounting.
RSM’s department of Accounting and Control has a strong research tradition with an international focus, as evidenced by our top publications, research collaboration with academics at leading schools in the USA, editorial positions, an international seminar series, several annual conferences and a USA style PhD programme. Our areas of research span financial and managerial accounting, auditing and taxation, and we employ archival and experimental methods. While offering separate teaching programmes at the bachelor, master and executive level, we have formed the Erasmus Accounting Research Group, a joint research group with the accounting department of Erasmus School of Economics (ESE). The Erasmus Accounting Research Group has established itself as one of the leading and most diverse accounting groups in Europe, with close to 40 research-active members.
As an assistant professor, your main tasks are to conduct high-quality research and to teach. You have the freedom to develop your own innovative research line within the field of accounting. We also value and encourage your collaboration within the research group. Furthermore, you teach the bachelor and/or master programme cohorts and supervise student theses.
Your core tasks:
- Conduct impactful academic research aimed at top-tier academic journals – independently and in collaboration with others
- Teach accounting courses (in English) at the bachelor and master level
- Contribute to the further development of the RSM Erasmus Accounting Research Group.
As our enthusiastic colleague, you:
- Have or are close to obtaining a PhD in an accounting or related relevant discipline;
- Can demonstrate the potential for outstanding achievements in research and teaching in the fields of accounting, auditing, management control and/or taxation;
- Are committed to contributing to the research and teaching programmes of RSM and the Erasmus Accounting Research Group;
- Are a conscious team player who contributes to the development of the research group; and
- Have excellent proficiency in English. Dutch language skills are not necessary but are valued.
Employment conditions and benefits
You work in an internationally oriented environment within a large and enthusiastic research group. The working conditions are in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).
Assistant professor positions involve a six-year tenure and promotion track, with generous extensions for parenthood. Tenure and promotion decisions are based on individual performance, principally in research and teaching. Early tenure opportunities are available when you’re on track to meet the tenure and promotion criteria at the end of the tenure track. As a tenured assistant professor, you also qualify for generous additional research funding to support you in reaching your tenure and promotion goals.
We offer you a moderate teaching load. Teaching takes place in English. For Dutch-speaking candidates, there may be opportunities to teach in Dutch. The compensation package is competitive relative to European salaries and includes several secondary benefits, such as a pension plan that is partially funded by the university. Favourable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants.
