Introduction

Position: SA Working on Google Apps Script Development for RSM/EUR Education

Location: Woudestein campus and/or Remote

Duration: 1 April – 31 August for 8 hours per week

Department: RSM Department of Organization & Personnel Management along with RSM Digitization and Information Services

At RSM, we are continuously working on improving the assessment of student assignments. For this striving, we would like to enhance and release the prototype of one of our assessment tools, built in Google Apps Script, to facilitate its use beyond RSM. We are currently seeking a proactives and tech-savvy student assistant who can take charge in this, and can independently work on Google Apps Script (i.e., Javascript) development and deployment. 

In this role, you will be working directly with me, Dr Colin Lee (assistant professor in HRM and the creator of the tool), as well as a software consultant. While you may also collaborate with RSM's Digitization and Information Services developers and Learning Innovation Consultants, your primary responsibility will be to independently manage and enhance this specific codebase.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement new features for our application using Google Apps Script.
  • Participate in understanding project requirements and brainstorming solution strategies.
  • Write and maintain clean, efficient, and readable code.
  • Create (automated) tests to validate application functionality and maintain code quality.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and debug issues in the existing codebase.
  • Balance academic responsibilities with project deadlines, demonstrating effective time management.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Enrolled as a student at any Dutch university for the duration of the contract
  • Proficiency in Google Apps Script or Javascript, or can demonstrate that this skill level can be reached quickly.
  • The position is open to 2nd year bachelor students through to Master
  • Ability to work proactively and independently as well as within a team.

This position provides an excellent opportunity for students looking to use their coding skills for the enhancement and efficiency of our university education. You will be instrumental in expanding an existing application, ensuring its code quality, and professionalizing its deployment.

You will get compensated according to the SA salary scale. In Q1 2024, this amounted to a gross hourly rate between €15.87 and €17.24 depending on your current degree level.
