STAR Erasmus consultancy team - recruiting for companies
STAR Erasmus consultancy team - recruiting for companies

A student-organised consultancy service is on the hunt for clients to work for – particularly companies that want to expand or improve their markets in other countries. STAR is the student-led study association at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM), and its STAR Erasmus Consultancy (SEC) project is now recruiting company clients to share their skills and knowledge to help tackle real organisational challenges.

The students taking part in SEC are among the best business brains of their generation. The students acting as consultants are carefully selected for their specialist skills and knowledge, and are known for their fresh ideas and insights informed by their world-class education at one of Europe’s top business schools. These master and bachelor students are supported by professional consultants to offer consultancy services to international companies.

Skilled and equipped

The consultancy services they offer can include: tailor-made research based on field research and desk research; market research for new or unusual products or services; or working out strategies for entering new markets. The students are equipped to offer consultancy services in the fields of finance, IT, supply chain management, and strategy among others. The student consultants will not ask for an hourly wage but companies will pay their expenses, and the consultants can travel internationally to conduct field research.

Companies interested in working with the RSM students must be able to describe their requirements. They can contact the student committee via the website – which gives a list of the options for student-led research from which companies can benefit.

Interesting problems

Roza Kooter is Chairman of STAR Erasmus Consulting. She said: “The SEC works in multiple phases. Right now, we are in the acquisition phase, looking for suitable companies with interesting problems. As soon as we have selected the companies, we start recruiting consultants, and gather briefings to be able to help solve these problems.”

Last year, an SEC team travelled to China to investigate how to make a Chinese company’s supply chain more sustainable. In 2017, 25 student consultants and two professors from RSM conducted company-specific desk research before a field project in Colombia, where they met local industry and government institutions to gather information and contacts for companies participating in the SEC. Other past projects are described on the SEC website.

The student consultants make the most of their international experiences: they work hard for their clients, and organise social activities while they are visiting the country of the project to conduct their field research.
