A place in the Bloomberg Aptitude Test (BAT) Hall of Fame is guaranteed for Matthijs Zandee, whose education at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) helped him to produce the fourth highest result out of more than 4,000 BAT test-takers in the EMEA region in October 2014.

Matthijs graduated with a bachelor degree in International Business Administration from RSM, then from RSM’s master programmes in Organisational Change & Consulting and Business Information Management , finishing in 2014. He explains: “I came across the BAT on Facebook; I looked into it and decided to participate. While neither of my masters are finance-oriented, I think my RSM three-year Bachelor programme covered a lot of financial aspects, and the area has always been of interest to me.

“I looked at the multiple choice example questions online and found them easy. The test itself is more about thinking and problem solving ability than assessing readily available knowledge. It went well, and took me less than the allotted time.”

Matthijs started work in change management for Robeco, a large Dutch asset management company in January. Although he thinks the BAT test is relevant and is a great addition to his CV, he remarks that ‘not all recruiters know about it yet’.

Take the test

The BAT helps students and recent graduates connect with financial employers worldwide. The test was developed in partnership with premier financial institutions and universities around the world. Taking the test enables students to find their strengths across a range of finance, business, career and personal competencies and discover their suitability for careers in business and finance. More than 100,000 students took the BAT in 2014 and made connections with more than 300,000 employers. Students enter their scores anonymously into the BAT Talent Search tool used by employers to identify candidates for entry-level roles in business. Employers can view student profiles anonymously and can contact those students with profiles that complement the organisations’ career opportunities.
