IBA Mentors 2018-2019
As a first-year IBA student, you will get assigned a 'mentor' to help you adjust with the first year of university.
Read their messages below:
Antonia Murke, German IBA student
"Hi freshmen of 2018, an intense and rewarding student life on and off campus is waiting for you! Don’t be afraid of change. Relax, be confident and enjoy the upcoming time as a student at RSM. It’s going to be great. Looking back to my first year as an IBA student, I was overwhelmed by the diversity and spirit on campus and the various challenges I was facing together with my international fellows in the vibrant city of Rotterdam. Having had a great mentor who supported and advised me through all the ups and downs in my freshman's life, I’m ready and well-prepared to be a guiding hand for you, the next RSM generation. I’ll do my best to help you successfully start this new and exciting chapter of your life and look forward to getting to know you soon. Welcome to the best student experience, starting in September!"
Méret de Wind, Dutch IBA student
“Dear first-year students, I hope you're ready to start one of your best experiences yet! When I started IBA last year, I did not know what to expect. It was a big change, considering living on your own and having a lot more freedom concerning going to class and studying. You might feel a bit lost at first. But I assure you, you will roll right into it! The IBA programme introduces you perfectly to your new lifestyle, in which your mentor can assist you with anything. We're here to answer all of your questions and make you feel welcome. Of course studying is important, but make sure to explore the city as well and meet all the people you can. This is what truly makes the student experience great. I hope you will have a great summer and I cannot wait to introduce you to Rotterdam and the student life!”
Kit Germans, Latvian IBA student
“Dear freshmen, the IBA programme will honestly feel like another universe, nothing like high school and college. Due to the international aspect of this course, you will never feel like a black sheep, no matter where you come from. I have made so many great memories with so many amazing people that I am proud to call my friends – and so will you. This programme might be challenging at times but going through it with people who are in the same boat as you makes the experience more pleasant. The only advice I can give is to keep an open mind, pursue passions you didn’t have the chance or time for before, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone a little. Your student life starts now!”
Alessandro Rolla, Italian IBA student
“Rotterdam felt like home already from the first few days. It is an incredible city that can offer anything you need. University is amazing and within IBA you can find a vast blend of different cultures which will lead you into a brand-new world. Of course you will have lots of doubts and uncertainties, but the mentor programme is here to help you! We will guide you during your dark moments and we will assist you throughout your first year. My wise tip? Try to find the right balance between studying and social life because if you do, RSM will be the best thing that has ever happened to you!”
Dragana Knezevic, Bosnian IBA student
“Dear freshmen, prepare for an amazing journey ahead of you. The IBA offers so many opportunities, and the upcoming three years are going to be a life-changing experience. I know how you feel; I was also scared and didn’t know what to expect. However, after a month I realised it was the best decision in my life. IBA is a place where you will find lifelong friends, study hard, party hard and create memories for life! My mentor was the one who helped me go through my first year and helped me with my struggles. I want to do the same for you. Can’t wait to see you all in September and welcome you to IBA!”
Matthijs Minnaar, Dutch IBA student
“Dear IBA class of 2021, you will soon start a new chapter of your life. Wherever you came from, all of you will embark on something new: the life of a student in Rotterdam. This means being independent, partying hard, studying hard, but also doing chores, buying groceries and finding your place in Rotterdam. I know first-hand that the change from high school to university can be pretty big. Luckily, you’re not alone and you’re not the first. With you, more than 500 first-year IBAs will experience the same thing, just as in the previous years. Among those people will be your future best friends and maybe even your future husband or wife. A year back, I was in the same position as you - completely new to the student life and Rotterdam. Now, as your mentor, I’m here to help you in the process of finding your place in Rotterdam. My takeaway is that while heading towards your goals, don’t forget to enjoy the ride. I’m looking forward to meeting you, and welcome you to the best three years of your life!”
