Erasmus Crowdfunding Lab

Erasmus Crowdfunding Lab

The Erasmus Crowdfunding Lab (ECLab) is an interdisciplinary academic research group dedicated to the study of crowdfunding – raising capital from many people through an online platform. The ECLab is based at Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) and supported by the Erasmus Center for Data Analytics (ECDA) and Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERiM).

The aim of ECLab is to connect EUR researchers with interest in crowdfunding as well as to support and promote their research.

The focus of ECLab is on core crowdfunding subjects, which include:

  • Reward-based crowdfunding
  • Equity crowdfunding
  • Peer-to-peer lending
  • Donation-based crowdfunding

Other subjects as long as they share important characteristics with crowdfunding are also considered, such as crowdsourcing, tokenization and digitization of finance.

Reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of crowdfunding research, members and affiliate members of ECLab come from all fields of management and economics and have published their crowdfunding research in leading academic journals.

The ECLab organizes various research activities along the academic year:

  • Research seminars – where members and affiliate members present their research in progress
  • Reading groups – where members and affiliate members discuss recent developments in crowdfunding research
  • Industry talks –  where individuals engaged in managing/developing crowdfunding platforms or related activities are invited to share their expertise and insight

The ECLab also plan to organize the Erasmus Crowdfunding Conference on a biennial basis, with the objective of promoting crowdfunding research, and bringing together leading academics in the field. This one-day conference will host a limited number of paper presentations with designated discussants and ample opportunity for discussion and interaction.
