Dean of Research at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM), Professor Pursey Heugens has welcomed the appointment of Professor Kirsten Rohde as Vice Dean and Director of Research at Erasmus School of Economics (ESE). The two faculties of Erasmus University, RSM and ESE, are jointly responsible for the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM).

Rohde’s appointment includes the associate directorship of ERIM. Both ESE and RSM face challenges of developing and implementing updated policies for academic recognition and rewards, and the issues of open science and open access, exploring collaborative grants and interdisciplinarity, and strengthening research support.

Kirsten Rohde is Professor of Behavioural Economics at ESE. Her personal vision fits well with current developments in open science: “Through open science we can avoid researchers ‘reinventing the wheel’, such that they can spend their time on innovative matters.”

Other current challenges for RSM and ESE are common to other university faculties in the Netherlands, such as the need for external funding because of the financial pressure on Dutch universities. Rohde: “By building strong teams, with good team dynamics, I hope we can enable these teams to acquire the required external funding. And in all of these matters I consider it very important to not only consider our own ambitions as a school, but also how they relate to the broader systems we operate in, at university, national and international level.
