Preparing for celebrations of its 50th anniversary in 2020, Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) is ending 2019 on a positive note. The latest set of rankings attest to its position as a top-tier international business school. Since 2006, RSM has continuously been included in the list of the leading European Business Schools published by the Financial Times.

RSM’s Dean, Professor Ansgar Richter, said: “This past year, we have seen some divergence in our ranking results. In two leading global university rankings related to the subject of business administration, we have been doing very well.”

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (the ‘Shanghai ranking’) puts RSM 4th worldwide for Business Administration, and the US World & News Report ranking puts RSM 13th for Economics and Business ‒ up one place from last year.

RSM has also excelled in some of the programme-specific rankings. In particular, our International Master in Management programme has been rated 6th in the world by the Financial Times. Likewise, the CEMS master programme has performed strongly, occupying 8th position worldwide in the FT ranking.

Other programme ranking results, including those for our MBA and Executive MBA programmes, published by QS, Forbes, Business Week, Financial Times and Corporate Knights show ups as well as downs, reflecting changes in methodology and the intensity of competition in the mature MBA market. Highly employable students

“Rankings are an important factor in the decision-making process for students, and strong positions in the league tables allow us to attract excellent, highly employable students and faculty members,” said Prof. Richter. “Our education is closely intertwined with our research – and so I am happy to see our excellence in both teaching and research recognised by the latest set of rankings.”

He continues: “This year’s ranking results illustrate our underlying strengths, but they also serve as a powerful reminder that as a business school, our interactions with key stakeholders are very important. This is why in 2020, we will start new initiatives to provide additional career opportunities for our graduates. These efforts will help to bolster our position in the league tables further.”

RSM has been triple-accredited by the three leading international accreditation bodies (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA) since the late 1990s, one of the first schools worldwide to achieve this status. It has gone through several rounds of re-accreditations since then. In 2019, RSM was re-accredited for five years by EQUIS, following its re-accreditation by AACSB in 2018. The School also hosted the AMBA peer review team recently, and the results of this review are expected shortly.
