Ethical Leadership in Business
Ethical Leadership in Business
Why and how do organisations – and people – make decisions that hurt the company’s long-term future? How can identifying virtues and encouraging professionals to stick to their ethical values help your organisation achieve its performance objectives? In this two-day RSM Executive Education workshop you will learn scientifically proven concepts, and discover a practical toolkit to help you maintain and develop your own ethically sound leadership skills.
Your own ethically sound leadership
Some managers see ethics as a personal opinion rather than good management. But factors such as peer pressure, the organisation’s culture, values and psychology can affect behaviour and influence management decisions.
How can you shape your organisation’s environment to prevent misbehaviour and develop sustainable good working practices? This programme will take you through the management ethics checklist to apply in your organisation through interactive workshops. The group discussions, case studies, leadership development, presentations, simulations, role-playsing and serious games will equip you with tools, skills and knowledge to be a force for positive change. The workshops offer an intensive but fascinating introduction into the latest research on morality for members of organisations. You will leave with actionable tips, frameworks and tools to use straight away in your job and organisation.
After this programme, you will be able to:
- think like an ethical leader
- build, develop and maintain the ethical culture in your organisation
- understand how employees’ unethical behaviour can be prevented
- reflect on your own behaviour, leadership skills and moral values
- use the subtle, unconscious influences that steer human behaviour as a force for good
- motivate others to behave ethically
- make simple, proven and effective changes in your behaviour, or to the social context to help your colleagues, supervisors and customers stay on the right path.
Ethical Leadership in Business is for professionals and managers with at least five years of professional experience, who aspire to help build and maintain profoundly ethical organisations with good management and ethical leadership skills. The experience of leading a team, either hierarchal or by project, is preferred but not mandatory.
Prof. Marius van Dijke
is scientific director of the Erasmus Centre of Behavioural Ethics, and professor of behavioural ethics at RSM and at Nottingham Business School. His research interests lie at the intersection of morality, social justice, power, trust, and leadership. Prof. Van Dijke researches the effect of power on moral and immoral behaviour, why people value social justice so deeply, and the role of conscious and non-conscious processes in moral judgment and behaviour. He has published widely on these topics in top-tier journals in management and psychology.
Dr Gijs van Houwelingen
is a moral philosopher and psychologist, and a lecturer at Leiden University. He successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on the influence of long-term goals and short-term temptations on moral behaviour at RSM. Dr Van Houwelingen has broad experience teaching classes at all levels of academia on business ethics, critical thinking and organisational behaviour. His main research interests include overcoming temptations, ‘thick ethical theory’, psychological distance and ethical leadership. His work has been published in Journal of Management, Leadership Quarterly, and European Journal of Social Psychology.
