How new ideas can take leadership to the next level

Shane McMahon is responsible for developing and managing a mix of high-performance trainees and senior consultants at Horizonscan Ltd. “The three-day Team Leadership programme was just what I needed to be the best I can be as Lead Consultant. I learned as much about myself as a person as I did about leadership theory and concepts. So it was useful for several aspects of my role.” 

Added confidence in leadership role

Shane says he was impressed with the programme from the first day to the last. “RSM managed to pack so much material and practical exercises into this intensive course. It was well-structured with a good balance of theory and practical input, and the facilities such as classroom and food were also top quality.” He added that the lecturers and actors were helpful, interesting and engaging. “This was one of the best short courses I have ever completed and it has given me added confidence in my role.” 

He had chosen RSM for its reputation as one of Europe’s top business schools. “I purposefully wanted to complete a leadership course with a European influence. RSM’s great location with easy access to Rotterdam via the Eurostar from London was a bonus.” 

Surrounded by fellow professionals

Seeing himself present and getting feedback from other students helped Shane to focus on his strengths and weakness more consciously. He said that within days of attending the course he was using some of the new ideas and skills. “The course is challenging if you engage with the material, but it doesn’t feel like you are at university as you are surround by fellow professionals.”

His fellow students came from a diverse range of organisations and countries, making it valuable to debate and share ideas and work challenges, Shane said. “I consider myself a very positive person in general, and the three days at RSM have given me new meaning and ideas in my role as a manager. I encourage my team to think differently every day and RSM has equipped me to take this to the next level.”
