Students and companies are getting ready to meet and mingle at the annual STAR Management Week, starting on 23 October 2019, where more than 80 activities will take place that connect interests, personalities and career opportunities. It is organised by pre-experience students from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) who are members of study association STAR, Europe’s largest student-led study association.

This year’s theme is ‘Your time to be different’. Students are constantly expected to ‘do more’ in the fast-changing society. And with extensive talent pools, students are challenged to distinguish their aspirations from others to stand out from the crowd.

The challenge

So how can they do this? Students can use the event to explore how they can use their unique personality and ambitions as a leading starting point to build a career that fits them best. The STAR Management Week will offer multiple activities on- and off-campus for students in every phase of their studies. They can get in touch with companies during one of the career activities, orientate themselves on all the various industries, or become inspired by one of the keynote speakers.

A new inspirational part of the two-week business and recruitment event is ‘Sustainability Talks: The Challenge’, which will take place on Tuesday 5 November. Keynote speakers Jan Peter Balkenende (former Dutch prime minister), Maria van der Heijden (RSM Alumna and managing director MVO Nederland), and Anton van Beek (president Dow Chemical Company) will discuss who is responsible for sustainability, and how students can be a force for positive change in the business world.

Exploring career possibilities

Students will get a clear view of career possibilities through interactive seminars, speed interviews, workshops, case-solving training, leadership training, and personal development activities. They can meet CEOs and entrepreneurs, and network with potential future employers in formal and informal settings.

RSM students can also learn from RSM alumni in a networking masterclass, in which they can learn how to network, how to make connections, and how to actively participate in conversations.
