Why did you choose this MSc?
“I always had a strong passion for both marketing and start-ups. I definitely wanted to found my own company after my master, but entrepreneurship is best learned ‘as you go’. But what skill is indispensable to any start-up or company? Marketing. I considered several top-tier business schools and chose the MSc in Marketing Management at RSM because it provided me with the perfect mix of top lecturers, outstanding reputation, and affordable tuition in the vibrant city of Rotterdam.”
How would you describe the programme and RSM?
“The MSc provided me with the perfect mix of fundamental knowledge in marketing in the first semester, and the freedom to explore different areas of marketing and beyond in the second. For example, during the master I got extremely interested in the field of data science, was able to learn how to code through two courses. I wrote my thesis on machine learning and text mining. I also took a course in interaction design. My favourite part of the programme though are the incredible RSM lecturers. Class sizes are relatively small, and through its reputation, RSM is able to attract top talent from universities around the world who enjoy teaching and interacting with students.”
What was the biggest challenge in this master?
“I set myself the ambitious goal of writing a thesis about machine learning and text mining, a topic I had no knowledge of. So while others immediately started researching and writing, I first had to learn ‘R programming’. Luckily, the MSc offered some incredible courses exactly on the topics I needed, taught in an engaging and fun way. It was definitely difficult to learn, but it allowed me to acquire some extremely useful skills that I’m still using today.”
What made the greatest impression?
“The value proposition in terms of price and quality. Many of my friends and colleagues studied at top-tier business schools in the UK, USA, and several European countries. Yet in terms of quality of education and reputation, RSM is valued exactly the same all over the world. The only difference is that I was able to launch my career debt-free.”
How did your studies at RSM shape your career?
“Studying at RSM provided me with unlimited opportunities to develop myself and my network, inside and outside of Rotterdam. I worked part time at a growth hacking agency where I was able to apply the knowledge from the programme immediately and enhance my learning on the job, perfectly preparing me for the launch of my own business after my graduation.”
What are your future plans?
“As an entrepreneur, it’s always difficult to plan ahead more than a few months. I’m currently participating in a start-up incubator in London called Zinc where we build ’tech-for-good’ companies from scratch that solve some of the world's most pressing social issues. Together with my co-founder, we are on a mission to provide easy and fast access to education to people across the globe. My studies have been a highly transformative experiences for me and taught me the true value of education, which I now aim to share with others. Because if we can fix education, we can eventually fix all other global issues.”
