Why did you choose this MSc?
“My father has his own advertising agency and as a child I was always interested in his stories about his job and the projects he was involved in. Back then I already knew I wanted to do something like that too. In high school it became clear I wanted to do something within the business environment, so I decided to study business administration at RSM. During my bachelors, courses like marketing management and consumer behaviour appealed most to me, and after having a closer look in several departments at various companies, I was sure I wanted to start a career in marketing. I chose this master because I was already studying in Rotterdam, had good experience with RSM, and RSM’s MSc in Marketing Management is known for its high quality.”

How would you describe the programme and RSM?
“The programme offers a great variety of courses. The core courses involve both analytical as more social and creative content which gives you a good base and better idea in which direction you would like to go. Although the core courses are essential to get a good understanding of marketing management in general, the electives are more interesting as they go more in depth. They cover specific topics and are very practical. These electives often involve real-life cases, consulting projects or company-specific assignments, which are very relevant and you learn a lot from them.”

What was the biggest challenge in this master?
“It could be very demanding sometimes, especially if you combine it with committees, part-time work or other extra-curricular activities. The core courses involve many individual and group assignments, and because you follow two courses at the same time, deadlines can sometimes overlap. While the electives are only one at the time, this period can also be stressful as you're writing your thesis during these blocks as well. But it’s not impossible – good time management is key.”

What made the greatest impression?
“The professors are very inspirational. They have different nationalities and come from various backgrounds, each bringing in their own expertise. You can learn a lot from their knowledge and experience, and they are very engaged with the students.”

How did your studies at RSM shape your career?
“After I finished my MSc in Marketing Management, I decided to get a master degree in International Management (CEMS) as well. I enjoyed this programme a lot and I believe that this combination of masters is very useful. Marketing Management taught me how to be a successful marketer, and CEMS contributed to my career by gaining international experience and developing a very broad network. Both studies definitely helped me in getting an internship opportunity at one of the biggest multinationals worldwide.”

What are your future plans?
“I will be with Henkel for at least half a year and maybe more. As I just started my career, I'm not yet 100 per cent sure where my real passion lies. I don't even know where I will be in a year. I'm now working at the headquarters in Dusseldorf and I really enjoy it here. My roots are in the Netherlands, so I would probably look for a job there afterwards. But I can also imagine working in a country far away, you never know what will be on your path.“
