Why did you choose this MSc?
“During internships and work experiences in my bachelor in business administration, I saw some teams excelling and some teams doing less. I also discovered that I worked and felt better within certain surroundings and companies than others. I wanted to learn about these aspects of organisations and use this knowledge to create better results and more enjoyment in my work. I started RSM’s MSc in Organisational Change & Consulting, mainly because of the behavioural and human perspective of the study, and my expectation that the study was focused on the practical skills and abilities of students, as much as on scientific theories.”

How would you describe the programme and RSM?
“It’s a very insightful programme with a strong emphasis on personal development. You really get a chance to learn and grow if you allow yourself to. As I had hoped for, this master programme provided me with a lot of space for personal development. You’re introduced to an array of theoretical knowledge about change, consulting and organisational culture. At the same time, you research organisations and learn how to excel with teams or companies, either as a manager or a consultant. All of this requires you to learn more about your own values, personal traits and skills.”

What was the biggest challenge in this master?
“Adopting a different scientific perspective. During this master you build on your scientific knowledge as you’re introduced with 'new' scientific guidelines. For example, I’ve experienced several advantages of studying social phenomenon, such as culture, from the scientific position of a constructionist. This study challenged me to find out, and wrestle with, different assumptions about truth, science and conditions of conducting scientific research.”

What made the greatest impression?
“Our study group consisted of Dutch and international students, and it was great working with several of my fellow students. The composition of some of my study teams were an interesting clash of cultures and personalities. RSM’s teachers facilitate reflection on these collaborations, which helps students perform better in team assignments. Many fellow students turned into good friends with whom I now share some great memories.”

How did your studies at RSM shape your career?
“My studies have provided me with a clearer vision about my personality, values and beliefs, and my plans for the future. RSM is a great base to start my career adventures. In the coming years, I plan to build on my experiences as a manager. Switching teams and positions regularly will hopefully confront me with many diverse challenges. After several years, I want to teach and preach about my lessons learned, either as a manager, a management consultant or a teacher.”
