Why did you choose this MSc?
“During my bachelor studies, I realised that I wanted to specialise in the fields of accounting and finance. I also wanted to have some degree of flexibility to focus on specific topics and choose courses matching both my interests and my capabilities. I aspired to challenge myself and grow in an international environment at a reputable university. So overall, I believe that RSM’s MSc Accounting & Financial Management programme constituted an excellent match to these outlined expectations because the curriculum was both demanding but also rewarding by offering a vast selection of different courses.”

How would you describe the programme and RSM?
“The Accounting & Financial Management programme is challenging and demands a continuous level of effort to achieve one’s aspired performance results. However, students are provided with excellent learning materials and insightful cases and problems to test and enhance their personal skill set and ability to work both on their own and in international teams. I believe the interactive learning approach helps a lot in facilitating the understanding and application of theoretical models in a practical setting. Throughout the programme, I appreciated that all professors and tutors were constantly motivated to actively provide assistance if required. I experienced RSM as a prestigious business school, which takes pride in fostering the continuous development of their students. Overall, I strongly believe that RSM is able to maintain its good reputation by continuously improving their programmes in accordance with current global developments but also due to continuous, excellent academic research.”

What was the biggest challenge in this master?
“Having completed my undergraduate education at a different university, one challenge was to understand and adapt to the performance requirements defined by RSM. I experienced this confrontation with a new academic system as a difficult but also interesting and valuable experience. But my biggest challenge was to find the right balance between the general academic responsibilities, extracurricular offerings such as extra classes, certifications and events provided by RSM, and my personal life. This was especially difficult because the ordinary courses were demanding and required a high level of effort in terms of reading, solving assignments, compiling presentations and studying for the exams. Finding this balance was not an easy task, and I had to consciously prioritize all available options to allow for my best personal and professional development.”

What made the greatest impression?
“The fact that the Accounting & Financial Management programme met my expectations entirely made the greatest impression to me. I was able to advance in my desired fields of expertise in a supportive academic setting characterised by strongly motivated students and academic staff. After completing my studies and entering the professional environment, I realised that the high level of academic education provided at RSM allows me to effectively apply theoretical learnings to the practice and deliver high-quality work accordingly.”

How did your studies at RSM shape your career?
“At RSM I was surrounded by a diverse group of motivated and smart students, who strongly influenced my current and future professional development. As opposed to my initial plan I did not enter the business world as an employee in a corporation, but started an own company with some of my peers. Also, I’m certain that the combination of technical business expertise and soft skills that I developed in the MScBA programme related to leadership and teamwork provided me with a powerful set of skills that are relevant in my position in our start-up. Essentially, understanding and growing my core competencies strongly impacted my confidence and level of performance in a practical setting.”

What are your future plans?
“I want to positively influence the development of our company with my technical expertise and passion, so that we can have a positive impact on the business world as well as the people that work with us.”
